Dollars in the Afterlife: 10 Highest Earning Dead Celebrities



Recently, Forbes released its top celebrity earners for the period June 2012 to June 2013. Madonna ranked number one in earnings on the Celebrity 100 list at $125 million. What’s interesting is that for the third time in the last five years, the top earning celebrity in the world comes from the afterlife with $160 million in earnings.

#10 2013 Earnings $9 Million

 Theodore Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) is an American writer, poet, and cartoonist. He was most widely known for his children's books written and illustrated as Dr. Seuss. His books,  including  Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, How The Grinch Stole Christmas and The Lorax, delighted readers for years. He wrote Design for Death, a film that later won the 1947 Academy Award for Documentary Feature. Geisel's birthday, March 2, has been adopted as the annual date for National Read Across America Day, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. 

He died at the age of 87 on September 24, 1991.

Terence Steven "Steve" McQueen was an American actor. Called "The King of Cool", his "anti-hero" persona, developed at the height of the Vietnam War-era counterculture, made him a top box-office draw of the 1960s and 1970s. McQueen was combative with directors and producers, but his popularity placed him in high demand and enabled him to command large salaries. 

McQueen died on November 7, 1980 in Mexico of malignant mesothelioma.

Bettie Mae Page (Born April 22, 1923-Died December 11, 2008) was an American model who became famous in the 1950s for her pin-up photos. Her life was filled with cult myth, mystery and sadness. Her image captured the imagination of a generation with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality, during an era of strong sexual repression. she was the centerfold in the January 1955 issue of then-fledgling Playboy magazine. Often referred to as the "Queen of Pinups", her jet black hair, blue eyes, and trademark bangs have influenced artists for generations. One of the first sex icons in America, she was the target of a Senate investigation (based on her bondage photos).

John Lennon (Born October 9, 1940-Died December 8, 1980) was an English musician, singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a founder member of the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music. His criticism of the Vietnam War resulted in a lengthy attempt by Richard Nixon's administration to deport him, while some of his songs were adopted as anthems by the anti-war movement and the larger counterculture. He was murdered as he returned to his New York apartment, shot in the back four times by his assailant.

Marilyn Monroe (Born June 1, 1926-Died August 5, 1962) was an American actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol, starring in a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the 1950s and early 1960s. The final years of Monroe's life were marked by illness, personal problems, and a reputation for unreliability and being difficult to work with. The circumstances of her death, from an overdose of barbiturates, have been the subject of conjecture. In 1999, Monroe was ranked as the sixth-greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute. In 2009, TV Guide Network named her No. 1 in Film's Sexiest Women of All Time.

Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley (Born February 6, 1945-Died May 11, 1981) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter who achieved international fame through a series of crossover reggae albums. Bob Marley started out with a group called the Wailers in 1963. After the Wailers disbanded in 1974, Marley pursued a solo career and established his worldwide reputation. He was a committed Rastafarian who infused his music with a profound sense of spirituality. He forged a distinctive songwriting and vocal style that resonated with audiences worldwide. He died of cancer.

Dame Elizabeth Rosemond "Liz" Taylor, was a British-American actress. From her early years as a child star with MGM, she became one of the great screen actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age.
The two time academy award winning actress was famous for her beauty, her jet-set lifestyle, her charitable endeavors. Her much-publicized personal life included eight marriages and several life-threatening illnesses. From the mid-1980s, Taylor championed HIV and AIDS programs. Born February 27, 1932, Ms. Taylor succumbed to congestive heart failure and died peacefully in her sleep on March 23, 2011.

Charles Monroe Schulz (Born November 26, 1922-Died February 12, 2000) was an American cartoonist, best known for the comic strip Peanuts. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential cartoonists of all time, cited as a major influence by many later cartoonists. ''He put his heart and soul into that strip.'' ''Peanuts,'' which reached readers in 75 countries, 2,600 papers and 21 languages every day, made Mr. Schulz very rich. The ''Peanuts'' strips, merchandise and product endorsements brought in $1.1 billion a year. And Mr. Schulz was said to have earned about $30 million to $40 million annually. In all Mr. Schulz drew more than 18,250 strips in nearly 50 years. He died of cancer.

Elvis Aaron Presley (Born January 8, 1935-Died August 16, 1977) was an American singer, musician, and actor. One of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as "the King of Rock and Roll", or simply, "the King". In his later years, Elvis suffered from multiple ailments: glaucoma, high blood pressure, liver damage, and an enlarged colon, each aggravated—and possibly caused—by drug abuse. On August 16, 1977, he was found unresponsive on his bathroom floor. Attempts to revive him failed, and death was officially pronounced at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Michael Joseph Jackson (Born August 29, 1958-Died June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, actor, producer, dancer, businessman, and philanthropist. Often referred to by the honorific nickname "The King of Pop", his contributions to music, dance, and fashion, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication after suffering from cardiac arrest.
