Who Pays for the First Lady's Fashions?

I'm so proud of the nation's first lady Michelle Obama. Her fashions are always one of the favorite subjects of the media. Her mix of "off the rack" items coupled with designer fashions keeps her appealing and helps her represent our country in an extraordinary manner. However, there's a single question that's always hiding in the background- who pays for her wardrobe? The question has dogged every first lady in history from the likes of Dolly Madison through Laura Bush. Naturally, Mrs. Obama is not an exception. One thing I know for sure, the taxpayers are not footing the bill, contrary to what some critics say.

First Lady Visits China

15 year old Malia and 12 year old Sasha Obama have joined their mom Michelle Obama and grandmom Marian Robinson in China for a seven-day, three-city goodwill tour that focuses on cultural and educational exchange. The quartet's first top was in the city of Beijing on Friday, March 21, 2014. While the weeklong trip to China seemed to start as a spring break holiday with her mother and daughters but has turned out to include far more substance — and politics — than the cheerful advocate of fitness and healthful eating she often displays at home.

On Monday, Malia, Sasha and Michelle visited the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China, looking sporty and stylish in relaxed attire and comfy shoes. The beautiful ladies were photographed laughing while exploring the historical Forbidden City. FLOTUS even danced with traditional Chinese performers on the City Wall in China's central Shaanxi province.

Forbes has posted its10th edition of its list of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women. The Forbes list contains political leaders, philanthropists, celebrities and CEOs. The top 100 women are ranked based on money, their media presence, and impact over the last 12 months.

Photoshopped Michelle Obama With Natural Hair

The Huffington Post reported the following story:
WASHINGTON -- Actor Robert De Niro stumped for President Barack Obama on Monday night, joking that the country may not be ready for the white culture that each of the GOP presidential candidates would bring into the White House.

"Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white First Lady?" De Niro asked a crowd of Obama supporters, according to a White House pool report. De Niro was hosting a fundraiser with Michelle Obama at his New York City restaurant, Locanda Verde.

The crowd "roared" in response to De Niro's question, according to the pool report, and De Niro said back, "Too soon, right?"

Imagine that Robert DeNiro had asked "Do you think the country is ready for a first lady with natural hair?"

The photoshopped image of Michelle Obama with natural hair has gone viral on the internet.  I wonder what the country's response to the first lady with natural hair would be.  I'd love to know what you think the response would be. Please leave your comment.

Is This Photo in Poor Taste?

I saw the photo in a post on The Grio and I have the same question:

A side-by-side photo of Coretta Scott King with her daughter (which was taken at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s funeral) and Michelle Obama and Sasha Obama at the president's nominating convention has gone viral. The caption below it reads: "One Black Man Died For Another Black Man To Win." What do you think of this picture? Do you think it's inspiring or in poor taste?

Weigh in and tell us what you think.
