Try The 5 Percent Solution and Improve Your Health

I stumbled across an interesting article by Jim Toedtman in the January-February issue of my AARP Bulletin.  I learned about the five percent solution and the man who developed the concept.  I thought it was worth sharing as good advice for every age and every lifestyle.

Dr. George W. Calver was the doctor appointed by the U. S. Congress to care for its members.  In 1928, at the time Dr. Calver was hired, senators and representatives were dying at a rate of 20 per year. Over the 38 years that followed, his prescription of moderation calmed congressional nerves.  He also offered his 10 Commandments of Health and gained acclaim for the solution to attaining better health.

Credit Card Debt: What Happens When You Die?

You certainly can't take it with you, so what happens to credit card debt when you die? Knowing a little bit more about how credit card debt works can help you manage this issue early on and avoid unnecessary stress for surviving family members.
In the case of an insolvent estate, credit card companies write off bills. Family and friends can't inherit debt.
If there is enough money, the executor of the estate must notify the credit card company. Upon notification, the credit card company must stop assessing fees and late charges. This is to protect the estate from excessive charges.

Former Astronaut Mae Jemison To Lead Space Project

The astronaut who became the first black woman in space in 1992 has been chosen to skipper the '100 Year Starship' project. Dr. Mae Jemison is a medical doctor and a surgeon, with engineering experience. Dr. Jemison will lead the project to explore what it would take for a multi-generational mission beyond the solar system.

Dr. Jemison, 55, from Alabama, played a key role in setting up the 100 Year Starship symposium organized last year by NASA and the Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in Florida.

That led to the award by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency of a $500,000 contract to study what is neded for long term projects such as interstellar space missions, msnbc reports.

'Together we’ll be working towards an organization that will last 100 years and produce a viable interstellar technology, with benefits for all humankind.'
