Karen Santorum Defends "Righteous Rick"

Appearing on Piers Morgan's CNN show on the night before the Illinois Republican Primary, Karen Santorum defended her husband, Rick Santorum, former Pennsylvania Senator and current Republican presidential candidate. She addressed the campaign's social issues, including contraception and women's rights. Mrs. Santorum said that the media's portrayal of her husband "saddens her".  She says women have nothing to fear, stating "when it comes to contraceptives, he will do nothing on that issue".

Well, the women of Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama and Mississippi must agree with Karen Santorum; they voted for "Righteous Rick" in their recent Republican Primaries.  I'm afraid I don't agree with these women or Mrs. Santorum. I listen to what the candidate says now and what he wrote in his 2005 book "It Takes A Family".

The War on Sandra Fluke-A Leader Takes a Stand-Wantabees Evade issue

On Friday, President Obama took a stand on conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh's war against Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke. He called Sandra to offer his support as she waited to appear on MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports.

Limbaugh bashed the student activist on his show for several days, calling her a "slut" and a "prostitute" and suggesting that she provide videos of her sexual activities. The reason for this abuse is Sandra's testimony to a congressional committee of Democrats after Republican Darryl Issa refused to allow her to testify before the full committee.  Her crime is her support of requiring employers to provide health care coverage that includes contraception.

What Is the Issue: Freedom of Religion, Preventing Abortion, or Eliminating Birth Control?

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton

Last week saw strong protest in response to an original Health and Human Services ruling that religion-affiliated institutions such as hospitals and universities must include free birth control coverage in their employee health plans. The churches themselves were exempted from the requirement.
Several days later, President Obama modified that policy so that insurance companies, and not the organization affiliated with a church, pay for birth control costs.

Republicans find themselves on the defensive over the issue of contraception, only a week after they sharply attacked President Obama for attempting to require religious institutions to offer birth control coverage.

Shame On You: "Righteous Rick" Santorum

I watched a clip from a Rick Santorum political meeting in Florida. One of the attendees had the floor and spoke to Rick Santorum about her belief that President Obama was not born in America (yes, that same birthier crap) and that she would not call him "president" since he legally didn't deserve the title. Santorum listened to her, smiling all the while. She wanted to know when someone was going to do something about "it". Rick said "I'm going to do something about it".
