The Oscars: Lights, Camera, Action



The nominations are in; the red carpet is ready; all of Hollywood is buzzing. Who will come home with an "Oscar"?Well, the suspense will be over on Sunday, February 26, 2012 when the 84th Annual Academy Awards ceremony is held and the winners are announced. Mounds of information is circulating about the current nominees, but I want to know do you remember winners from the last decade? Take a walk down memory lane and revisit some memorable moments as each year's Best Picture was announced. May I have the envelope please?





2010-The King's Speech

Colin Firth won for best actor and Geoffrey Rush won a nomination for best supporting actor.








2009-The Hurt Locker
The film won 6 Oscars and Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win the Best Director Oscar. Jeremy Renner was nominated in the best actor category.









2008-Slumdog Millionaire
Set in India, the movie garnered 8 Oscars, although none were in the acting categories.







2007-No Country For Old Men
Javier Bordem won the Oscar for best supporting actor.






2006-The Departed
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson starred in this film, but Martin Scorsese won his first Oscar for best director.









2005-Crash
Don Cheadle heads an ensemble cast in this tale of interweaving lives in Los Angeles.









2004-Million Dollar Baby
Clint Eastwood won the Oscar for best director and was nominated for best actor.  Hilary Swank won the Oscar for best actress.








2003-The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Filmmaker Peter Jackson brings Tolkien's Middle Earth Trilogy to an end and wins the Oscar for best director for his achievement.










2002-Chicago
Catherine Zeta-Jones won the Oscar for best supporting actress in the role of sexy vaudeville star Velma Kelly.








2001-A Beautiful Mind
Russell Crowe was nominated for best actor for his portrayal of troubled genius John Forbes Nash, Jr. Crowe won the best actor Oscar in 2000 for his role in Gladiator.





I wonder who will join these distinguished ranks with the best picture Oscar for 2011?
