The Richest Man in the World: Carlos Slim

For a number of years, Bill Gates has held the title of World's Richest Man.  However, Gates has been bumped to number two as a new guy takes the number one spot.

Carlos Slim, the telecommunications tycoon who controls Mexico's America Movil SAB (AMXL), is the richest person on Earth, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a daily ranking of the world's 20 wealthiest individuals. Slim's fortune has increased 11 percent this year, according to the index.

The 72-year-old's net worth fell $478.4 million in a day to $68.5 billion as of the close of markets on March 2, as U.S. moguls Bill Gates and Warren Buffett placed second and third on the list compiled by Bloomberg News. Brazil's Eike Batista, who ranks 10th, still covets the top spot after vowing a year ago that he'd become the world's wealthiest man by 2015.

Breakfast Cereals-A Quiet Hazard

Cereal companies have spent fortunes on convincing parents that a kid’s breakfast means cereal, and that sugary cereals are fun, benign, and all kids will eat,”

Cereals on the highest-sugar list are among the most profitable for their makers, who back up their investment with advertising budgets of $20 million a year or more.

It has been said that exploding rates of obesity and type 2 diabetes in today's children will lead them to be the first in American history to have shorter lifespans than their parents,”Weil said. “That tragedy strikes me as a real possibility unless parents make some dramatic changes in their children's lives.”

Parents, Do You Know About S.T.E.M.???

The acronym S.T.E.M. stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The objective of the STEM initiative is to strengthen effective STEM education programs at all levels, enabling the U.S. to maintain its status as a global economic and technological leader.
Launched in 2010, STEMcp.com is an online resource for parents, students and educators to promote and encourage African American students to pursue careers in science and engineering. STEMcp bridges the gap between corporations who are seeking a fresh and effective online communications platform, to reach young diverse audiences in the pipeline for S.T.E.M. careers, and the students who will serve as talented leaders within the science and engineering community.

The War on Sandra Fluke-A Leader Takes a Stand-Wantabees Evade issue

On Friday, President Obama took a stand on conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh's war against Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke. He called Sandra to offer his support as she waited to appear on MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports.

Limbaugh bashed the student activist on his show for several days, calling her a "slut" and a "prostitute" and suggesting that she provide videos of her sexual activities. The reason for this abuse is Sandra's testimony to a congressional committee of Democrats after Republican Darryl Issa refused to allow her to testify before the full committee.  Her crime is her support of requiring employers to provide health care coverage that includes contraception.

Big Bad Joe Arpaio-Sheriff from Hell

Will Joe Arpaio buckle under the pressure of the U. S. Justice Department investigation? Absolutely not! Rather, Joe takes the offensive with the spotlight by revisiting the "Birthier issue".  Along with his cold-case posse, Joe "found probable cause" to believe that the long form birth certificate released by President Obama last April "is a computer-generated forgery". They found the same conclusion about the President's selective-service card from 1980. Surprise, surprise.

Arpaio, Sheriff of Maricopa County, is a staunch advocate of Arizona's tough immigration law which many believed is unconstitutional. Despite the Justice Dept. law suit and civil rights investigation, the G.O.P. presidential candidates sought Joe's endorsement while campaigning in AZ. He endorsed Rick Perry who eventually dropped out of the race.

Staying in the public eye seems to work for Joe.  It's kept him in office since 1992 and allows him to maintain his political clout in Republican circles. It'll be interesting to see how big, bad Joe comes out when the Justice Dept. investigations and law suits are completed.
